Voters in the East Greene and Jefferson-Scranton school districts will vote Tuesday, April 1, in a special election finalizing the financial reorganization of the two districts.
On the ballot is a revenue purpose statement to authorize expenditures from the state one-cent sales tax for schools, service and use tax funds. Both districts already have the revenue statements in place; a new statement must be approved for the newly formed district.
According to the revenue purpose statement, funds can be used for property tax relief; building and/or remodeling school buildings; purchasing or leasing equipment; unexpected repairs needed due to natural disasters, or to respond to changes in demographics that require new construction or improvements; establishing and maintaining public recreation places and playgrounds, recreational activities or community education; or payment of principle and interest on general obligation bonds issued for school infrastructure.
Absentee ballots are available in the Greene County recorders office at the courthouse during regular business hours, 8 am to 4:30 pm, through March 31.
